SCA Curriculum
Grades 1- 5
Students in grades first grade through fifth grade have access to their core content (English/Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) through their textbook based curriculum. The classroom teacher utilizes both teacher-directed activities with hands-on learning opportunities.
Grades 6 – 12
Within grades sixth through twelfth, a blended curriculum is utilized. Steel City Academies has partnered with Edmentum Courseware. This is a “digital curricula which is designed to meet graduation goals, offer flexibility, personalized credit, credit recovery, and expanded course access”. Additionally, Edmentum Courseware is designed around the PA State Standards. Teachers follow an “I do, we do, you do” approach to learning when using this digital curriculum.
Grades 1- 12
In addition to their core content classes, students at Steel City Academies will have access to Edmentum Exact Path. Exact Path offers “diagnostic-driven learning paths and powerful teaching tools to scale interventions K–12 in math, reading, and language arts and empower educators to reach all students through personalized instruction”. Our classroom teachers will have students take a placement test which will then give students their own learning path to close gaps they may have in their academics.
Grades 1- 12
Another addition to our core content classes, is MobyMax. This program is an online progress monitoring tool that will allow students to work independently to help close learning gaps. Additionally, MobyMax offers assessments for classroom teachers and interactive lessons in which students can earn rewards for their classroom.

SCA Enrollment Information
Steel City Academies is a referral-based program, which is typically initiated by the home school district of your child. Below is an example of the process that the home school district would follow:
- A change of placement for a student is initiated by the home school district. This means that their student requires a higher level of behavioral and academic support, which cannot be met in their setting.
- Our Director of Enrollment, Mr. Draper Gilliam, receives the information for the referral and sets up an intake meeting with the family and the district.
- The family and district come to Steel City Academies, meet staff, and tour the facilities. Following intake, the family and district are notified of acceptance. In some situations, the family has toured multiple facilities, and is also able to make the decision which placement aligns best for their child.
- If you believe that SCA may be an option for your child, please reach out to your home sending district for more information.
